In a 2025 laboratory study, scCO2-sterilized amniotic membrane showed the following average fold increases versus commercially available gamma-irradiated samples tested.

Absent in the irradiated samples tested: bFGF, BMP-4, growth hormone (GH), and stem cell factor (SCF) were reported as completely absent from both gamma and e-beam samples in the study.

Fold values reflect mean concentrations reported in Table 1; scCO2 n=3 donors and gamma n=3 donors. Results are laboratory findings and may vary by donor, processing, storage, and assay.

Structure matters, too

Preserve the scaffold – not only the signal.

Histologic evaluation in the same published study found that scCO2-processed tissue more closely resembled fresh amniotic membrane, while gamma-irradiated tissue showed areas of stromal degradation and fiber compaction.
